Rajasthan hospitals deny rape victim admission

A six- year- old girl brutally raped by her cousin was made to shuttle between different hospitals.

NEW DELHI: It can't get more callous than this, a six- year- old girl brutally raped by her cousin was made to shuttle between different hospitals - accompanied only by a male constable - before she was finally admitted for treatment.

The incident took place in Kaithuda village in the Bundi district of Rajasthan on Sunday. The beastly cousin not only raped the girl but bit her all over her body when she was alone at home with him around 2 pm. Her mother had gone to the market, said deputy superintendent of police Brijraj Singh, the investigating officer.

That was just the beginning of the girl's ordeal. Throughout the night, she was rushed from one hospital to another as each refused to treat her, citing lack of proper facilities "for such a patient".

The brutalised and traumatised girl had to shuttle between three hospitals in Lakheri, Bundi and Kota five times before Kota's JK Lone Mother and Child Hospital, which had earlier turned her away, finally admitted her around 3 am on Monday.

The accused has been arrested and sent to police custody for two days. DSP Singh said he claimed to be 16 years old, but in the absence of any official record, his age would be medically ascertained.
