How to raise 16 kids revealed

New York, July 19 (ANI): A couple from Nebraska, US, who are raising 16 children, have shared tips on how to manage a large family.

The big family is also taking care of nine chickens and one St. Bernard.

The children, 13 biological and three adopted, are aged from 2 to 23 and are homeschooled until they reach ninth grade, the New York Daily News reported.

Their 45-year-old mother Kathy Bessmer, who is a music teacher, said that the older kids do their own laundry, and all make their own bed.

The kids' days include schoolwork and music lessons, along with assigned 'baby duty' times, when the older ones look after Cecilia and Levi, both 2.

According to the Omaha World Herald, her husband Joel is a concierge doctor, which means he has fewer patients but is paid more in exchange for 24-7 accessibility.

According to, his salary is able to covers the family's expenses, but the kids are expected to pay for college themselves.

The older kids work part-time jobs and buy their own clothes, while the younger kids are close in size and share clothes.

Kathy recently put the family on a budget and discovered that they could reduce monthly spending by 1,400 dollars.

She said that the family eats a lot more rice, has planted a large vegetable garden and collects eggs from their hens and also make their own laundry detergent. (ANI)
