It's raining fun, games and discounts in Dubai

The summer in India is over, but it’s raining deals and discounts on the other side of the Arabian Sea. In Dubai, hotels are giving out free room nights, malls are putting up giant discount stickers, and there is also a summer-only amusement park for families. All this courtesy of the Dubai Summer Surprises festival, which has some great discounts and contests with prizes as crazy as bars of gold, luxury cars and a whopping 1,500,000 air miles. In short, there’s every reason for you to take a quick flight out.

EVENTS AND ENTERTAINMENT While some of the events and concerts like the Dubai Rock Festival, Elvis Forever and the one-of-a-kind Pillow fight at the Dubai Mall have already taken place, musical treats like Under African Skies, the Monte Carlo Circus and the Smurf Show are guaranteed to keep your family entertained, while sport fans can enjoy the Dubai Indoor Football Championship.

Modhesh World, the largest indoor edutainment spot in the region, is hosted at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre (DICEC) in the Dubai World Trade Centre with a quirky eponymous mascot. The entertainment hotspot has everything from playgrounds and soft-toy recreational areas to a videogame lounge and 4D cinema. Activities include laser gun and paint gun battles, snow fights, boot camps, roller skating, pizza making classes and sand parks.

STAY MORE, PAY LESS Hotels in Dubai are wooing travellers with special offers and packages. All Hyatt hotels in Dubai are offering a complimentary third night on a stay of two nights along with a 20 percent discount on spa treatments and food and beverage outlets within the hotel in addition to a complimentary stay for up to two children including breakfast, lunch and dinner (details here). Jumeirah Zabeel Saray , Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Jumeirah Creekside Hotel of the Jumeirah Group have their own summer flavoured package too with free breakfast and either lunch or dinner in any of the participating restaurants (including certain restaurants at the Burj Al Arab).  Aside from enjoying the beaches, pools and grounds, your loved ones will be kept entertained at the hotel’s Sinbad’s Kid’s Club, where they can spend the day face painting or swimming. The package also includes access to the Wild Wadi Water Park and private beaches like Jumeirah Zabeel Saray with certain Jumeirah properties offering scuba diving sessions as well (details here).

The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai, is offering complimentary accommodation and food at all hotel restaurants for two children on a minimum two-night stay. It also has discounts on all spa treatments at The Ritz-Carlton Spa and food menus throughout the hotel. Adults-only access to the Beach Club on Palm Jumeirah along with two free tickets to Dubai Mall’s cinema, Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, and entry for two children to major attractions like the Aquaventure & the Lost Chamber and Wild Wadi Water Park are all included.

BARGAINS BY THE BAGFUL Though top luxury brands aren’t on sale, almost 60,000 retail outlets have, with discounts up to 75 percent off the original price, including high-street brands like Mango, Bebe and Kurt Geiger. With the latest trends at slashed prices occupying the sale racks, it’s the ideal time for shopaholics to fly to Dubai.

Those looking for home accessories could sneak-a-peek at what Zara Home, Q Home Decor or Bloomingdales have to offer.

BON APPETIT Every hotel and mall that is participating in ‘Summer is Dubai’ has special discounts at its restaurants. At the Dubai Mall, for example, enjoy your food with a view of the Burj Khalifa and musical fountains as you dine al fresco. If you’d rather tuck in to some world-class gourmet fare, stop by Gary Rhodes’ Rhodes Mezzanine at Grosvenor house, Jamie Oliver’s Jamie's Italian at Marina Pavilion at Festival City, Marco Pierre White’s Marco Pierre White Grill at Conrad Dubai or Nobu Matsuhisa’s Nobu Restaurant at the Palm Jumeirah.
