Cheteshwar Pujara and Wriddhiman Saha have turned the tables in India’s favour in the ongoing four-match series against Australia. They strung a partnership of 199 runs on day four of the third Test at Ranchi on Sunday.
When the day began at Ranchi, India were 91 runs behind, Australia would have planned to quickly break Pujara and Saha’s partnership, wrap up the Indian tail, take a lead of 60-70 runs and score some runs, which would have put pressure on the Indians on day five.
But, with Pujara getting his third double hundred and Saha notching a brilliant hundred showed that why this Virat Kohli’s team has done so well in the current season.
One should not forget, that India lost the toss in this Test match, and after losing it, they came back and put up 600 runs on the board.
Australia scored 451 runs, which are usually enough on these kind of surfaces, but now Australia has lost two wickets and are 129 runs behind India.
If India can take two or three early wickets on day five then Australia will be under tremendous pressure to save this Test match and the series.
Full marks to Cheteshwar Pujara again. I have been saying this time and again that, with all the classy players in the Indian team, Pujara has absorbed the pressure and anchored Indian cricket in this home season.
He got a hundred against England in Vizag in the second Test after the first Test was drawn, then he showed his class in Bangalore with his innings of 92 runs and now he has played another fantastic innings today.
This innings is probably one of Pujara’s best efforts for India and let’s hope this effort is made for a winning cause.
