Calcutta / Chennai: It wasn't the start that Chennai Super Kings would have expected.
They started the match well, often taking wickets at regular intervals to stem Mumbai Indians' run flow. However, a certain Kieron Pollard struck for Mumbai at the end as he took Chennai bowlers to the cleaners.
Man of the match Pollard, at the post-match presentation ceremony, said had he dropped the catch, Mumbai would have dropped the match.
The following are excerpts
Ricky Ponting: I'm pretty happy with the effort of the guys… For us, the last two games have both gone down the wire… While we finished on the wrong end in the last match, I am happy that we have won this one.
Pollard was fantastic today… The partnership that he struck with Harbhajan Singh gave us a total that we could defend.
Our bowlers did a great job, especially the spinners in the middle overs by restricting their batsmen from playing the big shots.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni: The shot selection was really poor in this game… The batsmen should have showed a bit more responsibility.
I think we should have chased down the target. There was a time in the last two overs, where I couldn't change strike because we didn't have wickets in hand.
Kieron Pollard: I am feeling very relieved after that over that I bowled to Dhoni. I like to contribute in all the departments of the game.
Had I dropped the catch, Mumbai would have dropped the match. I am not a finished product as a batsman… I try to play according to situation.
I told Harbhajan to just keep knocking it around and build a partnership.
