Police files charge sheet against sex worker's killer

New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) Delhi Police Tuesday filed a charge sheet in a court against a man who shot dead an alleged sex worker here for interfering in his relationship with her friend.

Submitting its charge sheet before Metropolitan Magistrate Saumya Chouhan, police accused rickshaw puller Munshi Yadav (25) of killing the alleged sex worker in February as she was an obstacle in his relationship with another woman, who was allegedly working under her as a sex worker too.

The magistrate took cognizance of the final report and committed the case to sessions court for trial.

The charge sheet against Yadav, a resident of Bihar, stated that the accused shot dead Pooja Shabnam near the Sarai Kale Khan inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) after a verbal spat Feb 24.

The accused was apprehended by passers-by at the spot when he was trying to flee and was handed over to police.

Yadav killed Pooja as she was not allowing her friend to go with him to his native place. He went to Bihar and bought a pistol and nine bullets to eliminate her.

Police booked him under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Arms Act as seven bullets were also recovered from him.

"Accused Munshi Yadav has killed Pooja in premeditated manner with the motive to take revenge of his humiliation and to remove hurdle from his way," said the charge sheet.

"Yadav knew Pooja, who was running prostitution racket with Kiran, Fiza, Reena, Meena, Babli and Matakalli etc. at ISBT Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar and other busy areas.... For the last eight/nine months, he was in contact with Kiran (alleged sex worker)," it said.

Police also said Munshi and Kiran were living in a flat here as husband and wife.

The charge sheet also said that "the accused wanted to take Kiran to his native village. But Pooja did not allow as it will adversely affect her business. Kiran could not leave without the consent of Pooja".

"There were quarrel between Pooja and accused. Munshi was also beaten up by Pooja. Therefore, he planned to kill Pooja as she was an obstruction in his love life," it added.
