Papua New Guinea (PNG) beat United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 26 runs in the second One-Day International (ODI) of the two-match series at Abu Dhabi. With this win, PNG have levelled the three-match series 1-1. The third and final ODI will be played on April 4 at the same venue. This series is part of ICC World Cricket League (WCL), in which PNG are well placed at the second spot with 14 points, just behind Netherlands in the first place with 16 points. UAE, on the other hand, are placed seventh in the table, with just 4 points in 10 matches. Only Namibia are below them. There is a lot at stake in the final match. But talking about this match, PNG set UAE a modest target of 233 to win, thanks to a fifty from Vani Morea and useful contributions from Dogodo Bau (46) and Assad Vala (23). The UAE bowlers were disciplined. Imran Haider and Zahoor Khan were the pick of the bowlers, scalping two wickets apiece.
UAE were cruising at one stage. From 148 for 2 they managed only 206 in their 47.4 overs. Wicketkeeper Ghulam Shabber top-scored for UAE with 70. Skipper Rohan Mustafa (37) and Rameez Hahahzad (30) were the other useful contributors.
Skipper Vala was excellent with the ball. He conceded just 20 runs in his 10 overs, but more importantly picked up 3 wickets as well. Norman Vanua and John Reva, too, chipped in with a couple of wickets apiece.
