PM projection pain for Nitish

Patna, Feb. 8: Chief minister Nitish Kumar today expressed his anguish over some of his party supporters projecting him as the NDA's prime ministerial candidate ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

"I feel pained when someone projects me as a prime ministerial candidate. The people making such a projection are not my well-wishers," Nitish told reporters on the sidelines of a conclave of the state public service commissions' chairpersons here today. The chief minister made the remark while replying to a query on the issue of the prime ministerial candidate of the NDA.

Several BJP cadres projected the Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi, as the prime ministerial candidate in the recent past. Reacting to it, some JD(U) leaders, including the state planning board's deputy chairman, Harikishore Singh, broke into chorus of projecting Nitish as the prime ministerial candidate.

Singh had expressed concern that the NDA would disintegrate if Modi was projected as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate. Nitish, however, never joined the race for the prime ministerial position. He said all along that he was "contented serving Bihar" and the BJP ' the largest NDA constituent ' should come up with its prime ministerial candidate.

Some senior BJP and JD(U) leaders, however, had engaged in war of words with each other on the prime ministerial issue within the NDA recently with the loyalists of both Modi and Nitish feverishly backing their leader's stature for being projected as the prime ministerial candidate.
