Pleased with Nasir: Alam

Calcutta: Former captain and coach/cricket manager Intikhab Alam feels Nasir Jamshed will soon be the batting mainstay.

The opener, who made his second consecutive century at the Eden on Thursday, was the Man of the Match as Pakistan clinched the one-day series with a match remaining. "Nasir has been around for a few years. He had some injury problems but he has worked exceedingly hard to get himself fit. He is very talented and I am really pleased with him," Intikhab, who is currently the PCB's director-international and game development, said during a media interaction at the Eden.

"When I was involved as coach, I thought this guy had a lot talent. We are lucky to have Nasir in the team, and he will a go a long way," Intikhab predicted.

He was also full of praise for Junaid Khan, who has proved to be a match-winning bowler in this series with his pace and movement. "Pakistan are lucky to have a left-arm quick like him in the side. He's a quick learner and that makes him very effective.

"Junaid puts in a lot of hard work… I've worked with him at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore and am very pleased with the way he's progressed."

Intikhab credited the players for the success. "I think they are very talented players. You have to give credit to them. To be competitive after losing three quality players (Salman Butt, Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Aamer) isn't easy… We have done well.

"We are lucky in the sense that we have fast bowling talent. Playing cricket outside Pakistan all the time is not easy. But the way they have carried themselves, you have to give credit to them," he explained.
