As the battle for the top phase of the table intensifies, Virat Kohli‘s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been virtually knocked out of the contention for the top phase of the table, following a heavy 61-run loss against Steven Smith’s Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), in Match 34 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 at the Maharsahtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on Saturday. This was the second time in this season Bangalore failed to go past the 100-run total, while Bangalore also became the team to register the lowest total against Pune till date. Th loss also pushes them down to the seventh spot in the table with just five points from 10 games, which included just a couple of wins and seven losses, while a match ended in no contest. Royal Challengers Bangalore were out of the reckoning for the IPL Play-offs after suffering a crushing 61-run defeat at the hands of Rising Pune Supergiant on Saturday. Skipper Steve Smith top-scored for the Pune with a 45- run knock while Manoj Tiwary was the next best with a crucial 44-run innings. For RCB skipper Virat Kohli top-scored with a 55-run knock while none of the other batsmen could touch double-digit mark. It was Bangalore’s seventh defeat this season. They are seventh in table the eight-team League with five points. They have managed to win just two matches out of 10 outings so far. Pune bowlers rose to the occasion defending a sub-par total with a controlled bowling performance. Imran Tahir was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/18 from four overs, while Lockie Ferguson claimed 2/7 in four overs to claim the Man of the match award.
