Last week we talked about how to style your leather jacket, and today we are going to go into the different styles of leather jackets, and which one is best for your body type. Before purchasing one of your own, remember that there are many different styles of leather jackets for women, and not all are universally flattering. You have to know your body type to get the perfect fit.
Leather Jackets for Women
The most popular and all-round favorites are regular or Chinese collar bomber jacket with sleeves or sleeveless, or the vest-type leather trench or cropped jacket. The Chinese collar bomber jacket is the most well known design. It is universally flattering. Whatever your body type, this collar draws attention towards your collar bone and distracts eyes from other parts of your body. It is also very functional and suits women who are on the heavier side because the leather doesn’t cling to your body. If you have a short neck, avoid this one as it hides most of the neck.
The sleeveless or vest-type leather jacket isn’t exactly, well, a jacket but this design suits petite women and allows them to wear leather without looking too thin.
Leather trench coat
The extra fabric in the leather trench i.e. the long leather jacket for women gives it added weight as well as warmth, so this is probably one of those travel or winter staples. This one can be designed to suit your body type. Just make sure that the trench falls right above your knees (and doesn’t go anywhere beyond) so that you look lean and tall.
Lastly, the cropped jacket; the classic style or the Chinese collar has a style of its own. The cropped jacket is cut shorter and ends somewhere around the bellybutton. This cut looks best on slimmer girls with slim waistlines and hips.
Leather and fashion
Spend time looking for quality leather and splurge on this fashion staple that will constantly be in style. There are endless possibilities for this piece: wear it over other pieces of clothing in the winter; with jeans and sky-high heels for a night out; or wear it over an elegant long gown to add some edge to your outfit.
