Melbourne, Apr 4 (ANI): Australian spearhead James Pattinson will miss the Indian Premier League after being scheduled for abdominal surgery on Friday, although Cricket Australia (CA) officials have allayed fears that the surgery will sideline the pacer from the Ashes.
CA officials have confirmed in a statement that Pattinson will go under the knife for a 'non-cricket related medical condition', and will be out of action for a month, missing the IPL like captain Michael Clarke, the Age reports.
According to CA's chief medical officer Justin Paoloni, Pattinson's availability for the ICC Champions Trophy will be determined at a later stage.
Stating that the issue had been troubling Pattinson during the latter part of the recent Test tour of India, Paoloni said that the 22-year-old has undergone tests and consulted specialists since returning from India, and added that it was felt that surgery is absolutely necessary at this time.
Paoloni further said that the bowler's recovery period will be determined once the surgery is completed but added that he is expected to return to training in approximately four weeks. (ANI)
