Patna Zoo takes steps to keep animals warm in winter

Patna, Jan.26 (ANI): Zoo authorities in Patna, Bihar, have taken steps to provide basic amenities to animals to keep them warm from the harsh winter chill.

They informed that the cages of the animals were being covered with jute mats in addition to the hay cover, which will keep them warm, as the mercury dips.

Heaters have been installed in the enclosures of animals like lions, tiger, leopards and sloth bear.

The windows of their cages have been covered with jute mats, in order to shield them from the icy cold winds.

Apart from these arrangements, special food is also being provided to the animals which would help them in regulating their normal body temperature.

Besides meat, vitamin supplements are being given to the carnivores. Herbivores eat the lion's share of green fodder, along with doses of minerals and vitamins.

Light bulbs are installed in their confines, so that they remain warm at night.

The zoo hospital and kitchen are also well equipped basic amenities for the animals. (ANI)
