Pathan sets India's ball rolling

Left-armer claims five as Lanka lose by 26 runs.

Irfan Pathan snared five as India beat Sri Lanka by 26 runs in a practice game of the ICC World T20 at the P. Sara Oval, here on Saturday.

India chose to bat and recovered from 51-4 through MS Dhoni (55, 42b) and Rohit Sharma (37, 26b) to post 146-5. Pathan then took five for 25 as Sri Lanka crashed to 120 in 19.3 overs.

The left-arm seamer first removed the openers Dilshan Munaweera and Tilakaratne Dilshan cheaply, and returned to clean up Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera and captain Mahela Jayawardene, who had dropped down the order.

Kumar Sangakkara (32) provided some resistance but was bowled by Harbhajan Singh. Sri Lanka lost their last six wickets for just 28 runs.

Earlier, skipper Dhoni smashed three sixes off Lasith Malinga and partnered Rohit Sharma in a 78-run partnership in a shade over ten overs. The two took India to 146 after the early collapse.

When India began their innings, Gautam Gambhir was struck on the hand by Malinga and retired hurt. He was taken for a scan.
