The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to take up after two weeks the bail plea of Sumit Bajaj, one of the accused in the Park Street rape case.
The bench of justices A.K. Patnaik and Anil Dave posted the matter for further hearing after two weeks upon the request made by counsel for the accused even as state counsel Kalyan Bandyopadhyay told the bench that the government was prepared to argue the case immediately and was opposing the bail.
Bajaj had approached the apex court after the sessions and high courts turned down his bail plea.
A 37-year-old woman had allegedly been raped on the night of February 5 last year in a car that Bajaj owned.
