London, Aug 18 (ANI): England spinner Monty Panesar's troubles on and off the pitch, culminating with his 'drunken urinating' antics in a Brighton nightclub, was the main reason behind a secret bitter divorce from his wife, sources claimed.
Panesar's divorce from his wife was reportedly revealed two weeks after he was seen urinating on nightclub bouncers following complaints from female customers that he was pestering them.
According to the Mirror, the devout Sikh, dropped by England for the Ashes series because of his poor form, had later admitted that he had started drinking with his Sussex teammates.
According to a source, Panesar's troubles on and off the pitch was the main reason behind the reportedly bitter divorce from his pharmacist wife Gursharan Rattan, although Panesar was reportedly keeping mum on their separation.
The source further said that Panesar was devastated by the breakdown of his marriage and is still coming to terms with his recent divorce, which has directly resulted into his personal struggles recently, with friends adding that Panesar blamed his wife's family for making their marriage 'increasingly difficult'.
The Luton-born player, who had married Rattan three years ago in a traditional Sikh ceremony, had reportedly praised her for the 'greater stability' she gave him during the early days of his successful England career, although the cracks appeared when Panesar was interrogated by police after a public row with his wife in 2011.
Panesar, who is studying for a sports science master's degree, had reportedly been working hard to rebuild his marriage when his wife filed for divorce, adding that although he did everything to make the marriage work, he ultimately felt that there were impossible family issues which made it difficult for him to live with his wife.
