Pakistan National Assembly to elect speaker Monday

Islamabad, June 2 (IANS) The Pakistan National Assembly will elect its speaker and deputy speaker Monday while the leader of the house will be elected Wednesday, a media report said Sunday.

Nomination papers for the offices of speaker and deputy speaker are to be delivered Sunday, Geo TV reported.

After Monday's secret ballot, outgoing Speaker Fehmida Mirza will administer the oath to the new speaker.

Nawaz Sharif was Saturday formally nominated the candidate for the prime minister's post by the newly-elected members of parliament of his party.

The first session of the 342-member National Assembly Saturday marked the first phase of transition of power in Islamabad and in the four provinces following the May 11 general election.
