Odisha take first innings lead

Guwahati, Dec. 30: Hosts Odisha took a first innings lead of 157 runs with six wickets intact on the second day of their Cooch Behar Trophy under-19 plate group A match against Assam in Cuttack today.

After having bowled out the visitors, who elected to bat first, for 205 in 63.5 overs yesterday, Odisha rode a brilliant century by S. Senapati to pile up 362 for four in 116 overs at close today.

Senapati scored 124, laced with 13 fours and a six, facing 228 balls, Ranjit Singh fell eight runs short of a ton. Singh's 92 off 222 balls comprised 12 boundaries.

After opener P. Tripathy retired hurt on 20 and P. Das was caught by Sanzow Brahma off Mantu Das, Senapati and Singh shared a second-wicket partnership of 198 runs before Singh was caught by stumper Wasiqur Rahman off Das.

Senapati also shared a 101 run stand with A. Barik (60, 4x9, 6x1) before running himself out. Barik was bowled by spinner Roshan Alam.

Earlier yesterday, Rahman topscored for Assam with 78 runs, slamming 12 boundaries. Sajid Khan scored 62 and Brahma contributed 41. The rest of the batsmen were out for single digit scores.

Medium pacer S. Pradhan was the Odisha demolition man having hauled six for 41 and A. Yadav ably supported him with three for 45.

Assam are placed fifth with only 10 points.
