Obama asks Sultan of Brunei to 'do some shopping to strengthen U.S. economy'

Washington, Mar. 13 (ANI): President Barack Obama joked about the Sultan of Brunei's great wealth as the Asian leader visited the White House on Tuesday.

Noting that Hassanal Bolkiah and his family are headed to New York on Wednesday, Obama said he would 'encourage the Sultan to do some shopping' to 'strengthen the U.S. economy'.

According to Politico, Bolkiah piloted his own 747 to Washington and, Obama said that he thought he was one of the only heads of state that flies their own 747.

He added that 'in case Air Force One pilots have problems, we know who to consult.'

But the Oval Office meeting wasn't all jokes.

Discussing maritime conflicts in the South China Sea and surrounding areas, Obama thanked Bokiah for showing 'great leadership as far as bringing countries together and making sure that everybody is abiding by basic precepts of rule of law and international standards so that conflicts can be resolved peacefully and effectively', the report added.
