Calcutta / Mumbai: New Zealand rode on their bowlers' lethal performance to crush Sri Lanka by eight wickets in their first Super Six match of the ICC Women's World Cup, here, at the BKC Ground in Mumbai, on Friday.
Opting to bowl, New Zealand pace duo Lea Tahuhu (four for 27) and Sian Ruck (three for 16) wrecked havoc as Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals to be dismissed for a paltry 103 in 42 overs.
Tahuhu and Ruck were complemented by the efforts of off-spinner Frances Mackay (two for 18), who snared two Sri Lankan wickets.
Sri Lanka 103 all out in 42 ovs (Dilani Surangika 34; Lea Tahuhu 4/27). New Zealand 108 for two in 23 ovs (Frances Mackay 39 not out, Suzie Bates 37). New Zealand won by 8 wkts.
