London, August 1 (ANI): In a series of 'tweet-abuses' faced by Twitter users, the latest to do the rounds is female journalists being threatened with bomb explosion outside their houses on the microblogging platform.
According to the BBC, Guardian columnist Hadley Freeman, Independent columnist Grace Dent and Time magazine's Catherine Mayer have said that they had been threatened with bomb threat tweets.
The report said that anonymous users tweeted that bombs had been placed outside the journalists' homes, primed to explode at 22:47 BST and Sara Lang, social media manager for US-based campaign group AARP was later assured by police in Washington DC that her house was safe.
A Metropolice spokesman confirmed that investigation has been launched.
The incidents follow the rape threats to MP Stella Creasy and feminist campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez and Twitter's Head of Safety Del Harvey said that the site has failed women in terms of online abuse reporting and it needs to do better.
Freeman said that threatening to bomb and rape people is illegal and added that there should be a button to report abuse more easily, the report added. (ANI)
