Expressing dismay over the prevailing political situation in the state, Tata Steel managing director H.M. Nerurkar said he hoped the turmoil would not affect infrastructure development plans in Jamshedpur.
Addressing traders at an interactive programme arranged by Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) at Chamber's Bhavan on Thursday, Nerurkar said the Rs 1,300 crore eastern corridor was almost ready and the current fluid political situation would not have much bearing on the project.
"The administrative machinery is the same and the eastern corridor which would see a third bridge over Subernarekha and a flyover and several arterial roads have got clearance. We hope to get a nod from whosoever comes to power soon on this issue," he said.
Queried by traders over repair of Marine Drive, which is a part of the western corridor project, Nerurkar said the issue is sub-judice as a PIL is pending in Jharkhand High Court over river pollution.
"We can do patch-up repairs on Marine Drive so that the road is motorable till we get clearance from the court," he said.
To a question from past president of SCCI Murlidhar Kedia about improving medical services and opening of round-the-clock pharmacies in the city, the MD assured that talks have been initiated with leading medical groups.
"The talks with Manipal Group are almost in a final phase for starting a state-of-the-art medical college and hospital at Ardeshir Dalal Memorial Hospital in Baridih. We also plan to upgrade Tata Main Hospital," Nerurkar said.
He announced that Sakchi dispensary would soon be open round the clock and the management would also explore the possibility of keeping the pharmacy unit of Tata Main Hospital in Bistupur open for 24 hours.
Nerurkar assured that the company had plans to set up dedicated parking lots in different market hubs of the city and also planned to widen certain roads to ease traffic congestion.
He also announced of setting up a vendor cell, which would give priority to local ancillary units in procuring materials for the company.
