Bangalore (The Telegraph):
Stunned by a relatively weaker opposition on paper, the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Daniel Vettori said that Man of the Match Ajinkya Rahane’s brilliant century and Owais Shah’s quick-fire half-century spoiled the day for his side against the Rajasthan Royals.
The following are excerpts:
Rahul Dravid: It has been an emotional day for me… It is always great to play at the Chinnaswamy in front of family and friends. I would like to thank the crowd for making it such a good experience… They cheered for me and it felt nice. I would like to thank my team for their performance and making the day for me. The guys were absolutely brilliant…
The two batsmen (referring to Owais Shah and Ajinkya Rahane) and the bowlers did the job for us.
Both Shah and Rahane batted splendidly. Some of their shots were incredible… The way they set the pace of the innings needs to be appreciated… And it is to be noted that they played those shots against a quality bowling attack. They have five international bowlers in their line-up and I will give full credit to our batting.
Daniel Vettori: We were pretty satisfied with the way we started. Zaheer Khan again bowled a beautiful spell. We kept their run-rate in check for 10 overs. But then Rahane and Shah really took the game away from us. They were amazing today (Sunday).
Ajinkya Rahane: That was a special knock for me and I would like to congratulate my teammates for their performance as well. This is quite a long tournament, so I just need to keep my form going… I was not thinking about getting a century… I was only concentrating on staying at the wicket and playing out the stipulated 20 overs. I am not thinking too far ahead…
But, obviously, the IPL is a great platform for the youngsters… It wasn’t an easy wicket to bat on. I took my time to settle down before I started to play my shots… It was a special knock for me… Obviously, it was a must-win match for us… I am playing along side my role model, Dravid, and so I get to learn a lot of things from him.
