Nawaz Sharif refuses to act as guarantor for Pak Taliban

Lahore, Feb. 7 (ANI): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal has said the chief, Nawaz Sharif, would not mediate or act as a guarantor for talks with the Pakistani Taliban.

In a video statement released on February 3, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) set a pre-condition for talks with the government, reports the Daily Times.

The condition was that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan should act as guarantors since the TTP no longer trusted the Pakistan Army after the alleged violations of peace accords signed in the past. (ANI)
