Nation pays tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his 69th birth anniversary

New Delhi, Aug 20 (ANI): The nation today paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 69th birth anniversary.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and several other dignitaries visited the Vir Bhumi here and paid floral tributes at the samadhi of Rajiv Gandhi.

Several functions are being held across the country today to remember the former Prime Minister.

The day is also celebrated as Sadbhavna Diwas.

Rajiv Gandhi was the sixth Prime Minister of India (1984-1989). He became the youngest Prime Minister of India when he took office at the age of 40 after his mother Indira Gandhi's assassination on October 31, 1984. (ANI)
