Kohima, Feb. 2: The chief electoral officer of Nagaland, J. Alam, has issued instructions to all deputy commissioners and district election officers on frisking of VIPs and enforcement of the model code of conduct.
In an order dated January 31, 2013, Alam states that the baggage of all passengers, irrespective of rank and status, are to be checked, specially at non-commercial helipads. A flying squad may be positioned at the helipads, whenever such movement is scheduled. While frisking of Z+ protectees is not to be carried out, their baggage can be checked whenever and wherever a check by a static surveillance team is under way. Besides, vehicles of candidates may be requisitioned/seized wherever they are found to be in excess of the quota or without vehicle permit for use during elections.
He has also directed Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd to stop disbursement of loans under the Year of Entrepreneur 2010 in districts, as this prima facie is a violation of the model code of conduct.
He has also asked the officials to ban movement of bikers, who are reportedly creating nuisance for the public in towns, especially at night.
