Lahore: Former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has signed a deal with IPL side Delhi DareDevils to work as their bowling consultant, but has not made it public due to the recent backlash over the presence of Pakistani sportsmen in India, sources said on Tuesday.
According to a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mushtaq has indeed signed the contract but both parties had decided against any formal announcements in view of the recent backlash over presence of Pakistani sportsmen in India.
"Mushtaq has signed the contract, but is avoiding a confirmation because there is still time for IPL VI and he does not want any unnecessary attention," the source said.
Mushtaq confirmed that he has got an "attractive and challenging" coaching offer from the DareDevils for IPL VI and said the deal would be finalised soon. "I have gone through the written offer to be bowling consultant and the documents are being exchanged. It is an offer that has interested me. It should be finalised soon," he said.
"The offer from the DareDevils is an interesting and challenging one… Until now I have had positive discussions with the owners," he informed. Mushtaq said that he is considering the IPL VI coaching offer as he doesn't have any commitments until the Champions Trophy in May and then the Ashes series.
