Mudassar Nazar blames Pak's 'consistent inconsistency' on poor cricketing infrastructure

Karachi, Nov 6 (ANI): Former Pakistani Test cricketer Mudassar Nazar has said that Pakistani players are 'consistently inconsistent' due to the lack of cricketing infrastructure in the country.

Nazar believes that even though the players can be blamed for the inconsistency as they are the ones who have the ultimate responsibility of batting, bowling and fielding, the problem lies in the lack of good-quality national grounds and a regularly-changing first-class structure.

According to The Nation, Nazar illustrates the issue by pointing out the team's fielding problems, saying that despite the presence of a good fielding coach in the national side, young players in the domestic scene cannot be encouraged to dive around and field well due to the lack of quality playing surfaces.

Nazar further said that Pakistan's domestic inefficiencies come out more strongly when it is compared to next-door neighbours and arch-rivals India, which regularly churn out a stock of quality young players with the help of the lucrative Indian Premier League and the more staid Ranji Trophy, that have led to the building of first-class infrastructure.

Stating that Pakistani legends of the past got away with domestic inadequacies because of a strong school system and English county cricket, Nazar lamented that it is happening less and less, adding that the lack of incoming tours to Pakistan is further compounding the problem by failing to expose domestic talent to the international scene.

Nazar also said that the lack of tours means that there is less money within the game in Pakistan, which reduces the ability of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to develop the game, adding that the problem at the moment is like a vicious circle. (ANI)
