Move to uplift Bodo language

Kokrajhar, Jan. 23: Bodo Sahitya Sabha, the apex Bodo literary body, has urged the government to include Bodo language in Doordarshan news bulletins.

The Kokrajhar district committee of the literary body adopted a resolution in its 38th annual convention to put pressure on the government to fulfil this demand.

The literary body's two-day conference concluded today with a cultural programme on the Girls College campus in Kokrajhar.

The Sabha adopted several resolutions related to uplifting the Bodo literary body and the language. The literary bod also adopted a resolution for erecting statue of Chanakya Brahma, educationist and noted sports organiser in Kokrajhar.

Earlier, a poets' meet was held, which was inaugurated by scholar and retired principal Surath Narzary.

Over 50 senior and budding Bodo poets participated and recited their poems.

A seminar on work culture among the Bodos was held yesterday during the conference.

Speaking on the occasion, Kokrajhar unit committee president said although the Bodo language is included in the 8th Scheduled of the Constitution, it is neglected.
