Miss America Nina Davuluri wants to counter stereotypes regarding Indian culture

Washington, Sept. 23 (ANI): Miss America Nina Davuluri, who was slammed on Twitter by people thinking she was from Middle East, said that she's grown up with so many stereotypes about her culture that she just knew that it was something that she needed to advocate for.

The 24-year-old, who chose the platform three years ago as a Miss New York contender, said that a lot of the remarks weren't meant to be malicious, but just due to the fact of ignorance, the Washington Post reported.

A group of ignorant people on Twitter had expressed their outrage, when she was chosen Miss America on September 15, saying that she could be a "terrorist." (ANI)
