Sydney, Sept 7 (ANI): Max Mirnyi of Belarus has captured his third US Open mixed doubles crown with Czech Andrea Hlavackova, beating Mexican Santiago Gonzalez and American Abigail Spears 7-6, 6-3 in the final.
According to news.com.au, the seventh-seeded European duo needed only 86 minutes to capture the crown over the unseeded North Americans for the 150,000 dollars top prize at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Mirnyi won his first US Open mixed doubles crown alongside current women's singles world number one Serena Williams in 1998 and took his second in 2007 alongside compatriot Victoria Azarenka, now the world number two, the report said.
The player said that New York was the best city to play tennis and its stadiums were the best to play tennis, adding that he was lucky to always get the best partners.
Hlavackova, who remains in the women's doubles event with compatriot Lucie Hradecka, gave Mirnyi the lion's share of credit for the victory, the report added.
She said that her partner was unbelievable and covered 80 percent of the court, which made it easy for her to make some magical returns. (ANI)
