McCain says Assad has 'upper hand' in civil war in Syria

Washington, June 3 (ANI): US Senator John McCain has said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad now has an upper hand in civil war in Syria.

McCain in an interview on 'Face the Nation' said that it is tragic, while everyone just sit by and watch.

McCain said Assad has an 'upper hand' because of Hezbollah fighters, and Shia coming in from Iraq and Russia pouring in weapons.

According to CBS News, last week McCain secretly visited the Syria to meet with some of the rebel forces taking on Assad, and stepped up his pressure on President Barack Obama to provide them with arms.

On Sunday, he called the opposition very tough for battling hard and for their dedication fighting for freedom.

The Obama administration has shied away from escalating its response to the ongoing violence in Syria, despite evidence that chemical weapons were used there in the past few months. (ANI)
