Calcutta: As expected, Sri Lanka's Test and ODI captain Angelo Mathews has been chosen to lead the Pune Warriors India in the upcoming sixth edition of the Indian Premier League.
The Telegraph had first reported, on March 23, that if No. 1 choice Michael Clarke is not available due to fitness reasons and if Yuvraj Singh remains firm on not captaining, then the job would go to Mathews.
Mathews himself was very happy with the responsibility. "It's a great honour to be offered the captaincy of the Pune Warriors. For me, personally, this is a great chance to gain leadership experience working with a multi-national squad," the Lankan was quoted as saying by a media release.
The franchise also announced the coaching staff for the team. Allan Donald remains the Head Coach. Rob Walters comes on board as the Assistant Coach and will also be the Fitness Trainer and Fielding Coach of the team. Praveen Amre will continue to be the Assistant Coach.
