Majority of Americans think govt should not force Hollywood to decrease on-screen violence: Poll

Washington, Jan. 6 (ANI): A majority of Americans do not think that President Barack Obama or Congress should force Hollywood to make fewer violent movies and television shows, according to a new poll.

The Hollywood Reporter Poll found that three-quarters of respondents said it isn't the role of Congress or Obama to pressure Hollywood to decrease on-screen violence.

The poll found that nearly 35 percent of parents supported government action to decrease on-screen violence.

According to the poll, conducted by Penn Schoen Berland, nearly 46 percent of Americans said Hollywood should make fewer violent movies, and 48 percent said the number of violent movies should remain the same.

Women were almost twice as likely as men to say fewer violent movies should be made, Politico reports.

Nearly 70 percent said there was too much violence in advertising, but only 34 percent want new restrictions, the report added. (ANI)
