Sydney, Aug 27 (ANI): Australian coach Darren Lehmann has said that the umpires could have handled the tense finale to the fifth Ashes Test before play was abandoned for bad light, and Clarke and Dar were involved in a tussle.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Dar was seen to push the Australian captain away from him and fellow umpire Kumar Dharmasena as they checked the reading on a light meter that would lead them seconds later, to call off the day's play with the Test ending in a draw and England taking the series 3-0.
England at the time were only 21 runs short of victory, with four overs remaining following a gutsy declaration at tea from Clarke that left the hosts a target of 227 from 44 overs, the report said.
Lehmann said that although Australia has had light issues throughout the series themselves, the umpires could have handled the situation in a better way.
The coach said that the team was quite happy to even lose a game at the cost of setting it up, adding that English fans had been great all summer. (ANI)
