Kumar: Our domestic players outstanding

Calcutta/New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad are in superb form, winning three out of four matches in IPL-VI. No doubt then that their form will serve as a warning for their next opponents, Kolkata Knight Riders, who have lost their last two matches.

Sunrisers captain Kumar Sangakkara said that he was proud to lead the team after the Kotla victory.

The following are excerpts

Kumar Sangakkara: I am very proud to lead the Hyderabad Sunrisers. A hard-fought win today. First of all, I would like to say 'Well done' to the guys… But, at the same time, we should have probably finished with three-four overs in hand.

We didn't have the greatest of the starts… But even in the middle overs, we got bogged down. But all credit to Dale Steyn, Amit Mishra, Ashish Reddy and Parthiv Patel. They really showed a lot of character in the end to see us through.

The bowling was outstanding today. We appreciate the efforts of all the guys. We believe in team work and try to perform as a unit. Everyone contributes in our team. It could be one run or a fifty or a hundred… It could be a wicket here or a catch there. All we are looking for is contribution. We are trying to play positive cricket and enjoy ourselves in the middle.

It is a good start... We have lost a couple of players to injuries, but we got two new players joining us as well. The domestic players have been outstanding and performed really well. Then the overseas players like Cameron White, Thisara Perera and Dale Steyn have been outstanding in parts.

Mahela Jayawardene: I am not really worried even after losing four games. We are playing some good cricket. There are a couple of close games which didn't really go our way. But these are early days… However, we need to make sure that we back our bowlers with some good fielding. That's when you win matches. Something that we have spoken about and try and keep improving upon…

The bowling of Sunrisers Hyderabad was pretty good. But I don't think we assessed the wicket well. We were looking at a total of 160-170.

Maybe a score of around 140 on this wicket would have been good. So if we had assessed the wicket a bit better, the shot selection would have been different. Those are the mistakes from which we should learn.

The bowlers did a very good job… They fought really hard and kept us in the game right till the end. But then we didn't have enough runs on the board.

Shahbaz Nadeem and Kedar Jadhav are exciting talents for us. Nadeem has been playing really well for the last two years. Kedar has also delivered for us. They have done a decent job for us….

Amit Mishra: Yeah, there was a bit of pressure there. I have been improving my batting for the last two seasons. I am trying my best, working hard on batting and fielding. It helped me here. Today, the hard work paid off. The team's win is more important for me than my personal goals. I am trying to contribute to the team's success.

I am receiving great support from coach Tom Mooday, Sangakkara and the owners. It feels nice when you contribute to your team's victory.

In T20 games, the batsmen shouldn't be allowed too many chances to score... I do that and also try to get wickets. That should be the target of any bowler. Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma are regarded among the best bowlers in the world. Their presence is helping us a lot.
