Karzai's brother joins govt. team to meet Taliban negotiators

Islamabad, Aug. 10 (ANI): Afghan President Hamid Karzai's brother Abdul Qayyum Karzai reportedly joined the government's team in a meeting with Taliban negotiators in Dubai in a bid to revive the dialogue process.

According to the Express Tribune, the meeting was held just a week after the Taliban closed their political office in Qatar.

A Taliban official said that the Karzai government had sent representatives for meeting the Taliban figures in Dubai to convince them for negotiations.

The official did not give more details but said that Qayyum Karzai was a more agreeable person to interact with the Taliban than Hamid Karzai.

However, Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid denied any talks in Dubai.

President Karzai has urged the Taliban to come to Afghanistan and open office with their flag and plaque and said that Taliban would not face humiliation if they opened their office inside Afghanistan, the report added. (ANI)
