Karnataka legislature's budget session from July 12

Bangalore, June 27 (IANS) Karnataka legislature will begin its budget session July 12 though the date for budget presentation has not been fixed, state Parliamentary Affairs

The budget will be the first of the Congress government in nine years.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who holds the finance portfolio, will present the budget.

The Congress returned to power in the state on its own after nine years in the May 5 assembly elections unseating the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The session is expected to last till July 30, Jayachandra told reporters here after a cabinet meet.

The cabinet also decided to set up a ministerial committee headed by revenue minister to tackle floods, drought and other natural disasters.

For 2013-14, the cabinet allocated Rs.800 crore to tackle effects of these disasters, if any, Jayachandra said.
