Karbi Anglong, Sivasagar shine

Guwahati, Jan. 3: A swashbuckling century by Danish Ahmed helped Sivasagar crush Hailakandi by 121 runs in a group A match of the Umananda Bora Trophy under-13 inter-district cricket tournament at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.

Sivasagar elected to bat and lost all the wickets, scoring 221 in 36 overs. Hailakandi were bowled out for 100 in 26.3 overs.

Danish Ahmed scored an unbeaten 123, laced with 14 hits to the ropes and six towering sixes facing only 88 balls, to be the topscorer for the side. Kunal Muktiyar (13, 4x2) and Aruhan Kashyap (12, 4x3) were the other notable scorers for the side.

S. Alfred of Hailakandi scalped three for 45 while Sunny Malakar, Muhit Sarda, Joydeep Debnath, Vishal Malakar and Suraj Malakar dismissed one each. Muhit Sarda (14, 4x2) was the only Hailakandi batsman to score in double figures.

Krishi Agarwal and Rajdeep Handique of Sivasagar took four wickets each, giving away 17 and 19 runs respectively.

In another match of group B at Nehru Stadium here, Karbi Anglong tamed Titabor by 170 runs.

Electing to bat, Karbi Anglong piled up 241 for nine in the 40 overs and Titabor were skittled out for 71 in 23.3 overs. Anil Sharma (79, 4x10) was the Karbi Anglong topscorer and Senglong Rongpi chipped in with a steady 31 (4x2). Kashyabjyoti Borah remained not out on 28 (4x2).

First down Rongpi and second down Sharma shared a third wicket partnership of 146 runs off 146 balls.

Prabin Das and Manash Shyam of Titabor picked up three wickets each, conceding 42 and 48 runs respectively.

For Titabor, Tridip Borah (12) was the lone batsman to score in double figures while Abhishek Yadav of Karbi Anglong scalped three wickets for 12 runs and Ananta Kramsa claimed two for 10.

Ankur Bordoloi, Shenglong Rongpi and Arup Dey took a wicket each.

The introductory edition of the tournament resumed today after it was inaugurated on December 20, only to be suspended the same day following detection of overaged players in participating teams when medical tests were conducted.

An emergent governing body meeting of the Assam Cricket Association on December 25 resolved to continue with the tournament.
