Johnson proves readiness for Ashes with bowling prowess during Shield game

Sydney, Nov 9 (ANI): Australian paceman Mitchell Johnson has reportedly proved that he is ready to take on England during the winter Ashes series during his side Western Australia's Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia at the WACA Ground.

Johnson returned figures of 2-74 and 3-88 for the match, and also scored 27 with the bat to help WA snare first-innings points.

According to News.com.au, Johnson's searing bouncers kept South Australian batsmen on their toes constantly, and he indicated that he is ready to do the same to England's batters in the Ashes series, starting at the Gabba on November 21.

Expressing his pleasure at getting five wickets in the match, Johnson also said that he had a good hit-out overall in the match, adding that he got into his rhythm as the day wore on.

With the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and James Pattinson nursing back injuries, Johnson is a hot favourite to be selected for the first Test against England at the Gabba, the report added. (ANI)
