Guwahati, Dec. 24: Hosts Assam's fight in the second innings went in vain today as Jharkhand walked away with three points by virtue of a first innings lead in their Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) East Zone match at Golaghat.
After conceding a first innings lead of 50 runs on the second day of their three-day match yesterday, the hosts resumed their second innings at overnight 24 for one and rallied on today to 216 for seven in 92.2 overs before agreeing for a draw. In the first innings, Assam were all out for 183 and Jharkhand were all out for 233 in 80.2 overs.
Opener Urooj Rizvi and Angshuman Saikia resumed at their overnight scores of 12 and three respectively. Today they shared a 52-run partnership for the second wicket before Saikia was caught by Prashant Ranjan off Rahit Khan at 21 (4x3). Rizvi (43, 4x7) followed him shortly behind to the dressing room.
It was middle order batsman Sahil Jain who stole the show scoring a brilliant 74 off 143 balls, laced with nine hits to the ropes and two sixes. Saurav Saha remained not out on 14.
Zeeshan Ali of Jharkhand bagged three wickets for 43 runs and Istekhar Khan claimed two for 43.
