Jharkhand Congress workers clash, fire in the air

Ranchi, June 21 (IANS) Supporters of two Congress leaders fired in the air during a clash outside the party's office in Ranchi Friday afternoon, police said.

"Two groups clashed and five shots were fired. An FIR (first information report) and a counter-FIR will be filed and we will investigate the case. Firing at a public place is a crime," said Manoj Ratan Chothe, Ranchi city superintendent of police.

Congress legislator Mannan Mallik has alleged that Rajendra Singh's supporters attacked them and fired in the air. Singh is the Congress's legislative leader in Jharkhand.

The incident took place when Jharkhand Congress in-charge B.K. Hari Prasad was holding a meeting with state leaders at the party office in Ranchi.

Supporters of Mallik and Singh clashed with each other. In the fight, shots were fired in the air.

This is not the first time that Congress workers have clashed in Ranchi.

"Jharkhand Congress in-charge has set up an inquiry team to investigate the incident and submit a report. Appropriate action will be taken against the guilty," Shailesh Sinha, Jharkhand Congress spokesperson, told IANS.
