Jealousy the key word for endorsers

New Delhi: India's domestic T20 league unites warring politicians, while also bringing together once international rivals Harbhajan Singh and Ricky Ponting. It has everyone's interest at heart. Cricketers and commentators alike have gone to any extent to let it rip at detractors. A strong word such as "jealous" being flung around so freely shouldn't come as a surprise. The latest to stick his neck out is David Warner. HT highlights other cases:

Get a life

Shock me @crashcraddock1 talking s*** about ipl jealous p****. Get a real job. All you do is bag people. #getalife"

Thus ran Warner's tweet. He was venting his feelings about Robert Craddock's comment piece on India's T20 league.

Craddock's colleague, Malcolm Conn replied, "@davidwarner31 cricket is a real job? Please. Most people pay to play. Million dollar cricketers milking IPL are hardly best judges." Warner then exploded, "@malcolmconn coming from you champion all you do is talk s*** as well. What about encouraging Aus players rather then (sic) bagging them."

And Conn's response was explosive: "@davidwarner31 You lose 4-0 in India, don't make a run, and you want to be tickled on the tummy? Win the Ashes and get back to me."

Warner could land in trouble.

Why so negative?

Kevin Pietersen is a sharpshooter. He fails to understand why India's T20 league isn't embraced in the UK. "India's league is very much struggling to find acceptance back home. It saddens me because I have had an amazing time and it's down to a lot of jealousy I think which is sad. It saddens me all the negative publicity the league gets in the media," he said.

Watto wisdom

For Mark Taylor, India's T20 league is a distraction for young players. Shane Watson though feels is quick to defend it. "T20s in India gave me a great opportunity, worked as a catalyst and I could blossom as a cricketer as well as a person. There may be difference in opinion but T20 have positives too. Youngsters like (Glenn) Maxwell are getting an opportunity to play with Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh. He can gain invaluable experience not only for cricket but also about life," he said.

'Jealousy & snobbery'

Player-turned journalist Simon Hughes believes jealousy and snobbery are major reasons why India's T20 league gets such little coverage in England. "It's probably down to jealousy, firstly, as although the English came up with the idea of Twenty20 cricket, they didn't have the idea of city-based franchises, which I've always thought was a good idea. And there's a snobbery about English cricket and Test cricket that inclines people towards thinking that other people's forms are a bit inferior."

Ravi's tracer bullet

Ravi Shastri, former India captain and commentator, reacted strongly to comments made by Nasser Hussain on not having LBW referrals during India's four-Test series in England two summers ago.

"England is trying to hit at everything that the BCCI does, everything damn thing that they do, A they are jealous about the way the India's T20 league is going, they are jealous about where India is in world cricket, they are jealous about the fact that India are world champions, they are jealous because of too much money being made by BCCI, bottom-line is that they have never been number 1 in the world in Test cricket," he said.
