Jan. 9: Jalpaiguri recorded a minimum temperature of 4�C this morning, the lowest since January 1964, the regional Met office in Gangtok said.
"The minimum temperature in Jalpaiguri was 4�C on January 30, 1964. In the past 24 hours, the temperature has dipped to 4�C, which is after 48 years," said G.N. Raha, the meteorological officer of Gangtok Met office. "Cold wave conditions would prevail in sub-Himalayan Bengal for another 24 hours or so. There are chances of moderate fog which in some places can reduce visibility to less than 500m."
Schools in all the six north Bengal districts remained shut today. The minimum temperature in Balurghat was 4.3�C, Malda recorded 4.7�C, Cooch Behar was at 5�C, Siliguri 5.5�C, Darjeeling was at 1�C, it was 2�C in Kalimpong and 2.6�C in Gangtok.
