After the hints and the speculation, Gujarat Lions on Wednesday finally announced that they have signed Irfan Pathan and Ankit Soni for the remainder of the current season of the Indian Premier League.
The two all-rounders have came in as replacements for Dwayne Bravo and Shivil Kaushik, who have been ruled out due to injures. While Bravo failed to recover in time from a hamstring injury, Kaushik played three matches before being ruled out of the tournament.
Pathan, who had quoted a base price of Rs 50 lakh, went unsold in the IPL auctions this year.
Earlier this week, the cricketer had hinted at a late entry into the IPL via Gujarat Lions in social media posts that he later deleted.
Pathan played four matches in the last season for Sunrisers Hyderabad and didn’t pick up a single wicket. Gujarat Lions is the sixth IPL franchise Pathan will be playing for.
Gujarat Lions have struggled this season mainly because their star all-rounder Bravo has been out of action due to a hamstring injury.
