New Delhi: There is an age-old saying in cricket that 'catches win matches', and the saying fits the bill perfectly in the match between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders, as a drop chance cost Delhi the match on Friday.
Sanju Samson and Amit Mishra made a mess of Robin Uthappa's catch and the right-hander made the most of his second life to guide KKR to their seventh win of the season.
Chasing a target of 161, Kolkata lost Sunil Narine early and that brought in-form Uthappa to the crease. In the sixth over of the match â off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada, Uthappa went for a pull-shot but the ball took a top-edge and went miles up in the air and started to descend in between the short fine leg and square leg region.
Samson and Mishra converged under the ball but in the end no one went for the catch as it fell between them. Uthappa was batting at just 9 runs when this shocking piece of fielding took place.

Uthappa (59) and Gambhir (71*) went on to stitch a match-winning 108-run partnership after that, as Delhi succumbed to their fourth defeat on the trot.
Later, in the post-match press conference, Samson conceded that Uthappa's drop catch cost them the match against KKR.
"Catches do count. Catches win matches and there was a dropped chance and he (Uthappa) made use of it. I think that cost us the match,â said Samson.
