Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) campaign in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL) received a major shot in the arm on Thursday when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team declared their skipper and star batsman Virat Kohli match fit. A BCCI release confirmed that Kohli has regained fitness and is all set to return to the action for RCB in their home fixture against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 14, Friday. Kohli had suffered from a shoulder injury during the India – Australia Test series and subsequently missed the fourth and final Test of the series as well as first few matches of IPL.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Medical Team on Wednesday confirmed that Indian Cricket Team and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Mr. Virat Kohli has regained match fitness. He will now be available for RCB’s next match against Mumbai Indians on April 14 in Bengaluru,” the BCCI statement said. “The Indian Captain had undergone rehabilitation after sustaining an injury to his right shoulder and has now recovered to be able to participate in VIVO IPL 2017,” the statement added.
Kohli, on Wednesday, went through some fielding drills during the team’s net session in Bengaluru. After spending some time in the pavilion, Kohli walked into the ground, carrying his kit. After doing a few warm-up exercises, Kohli sat on the chair to watch others bat in the nets before joining fellow teammates for fielding and catching drills at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Kohli had dropped hints that he may just make a return from injury in RCB’s next match against MI. He had also posted a video on his Instagram account of his gym session with the caption reading, “Can’t wait to get back onto the field. Almost there now on 14th April?”
Kohli’s RCB is currently at the sixth spot, having lost 2 of the 3 games played so far in IPL 10. In his absence, Shane Watson has led the squad. But with AB de Villiers returning in the last game and now Kohli set to join the squad, the RCB look a force to reckon with in IPL 2017.
