Riding on the back of a breezy 52-ball 93 from Rahul Tripathi, Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) continued to tick all the boxes and march ahead in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 edition. Chasing 156, RPS emerged victorious against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at their fortress at Eden Gardens. RPS got over the line and registered their first win over KKR in IPL history. Their innings was kept on course by an aggressive knock by Tripathi. The youngster hammered 9 fours and 7 sixes during his knock before he narrowly missed out on a hundred. With this loss, KKR succumbed to their second consecutive defeat and Gautam Gambhir was not a happy man after the setback received at home. He stated that his team cannot take it easy till the time they are not assured of a place in the playoffs. Full cricket scorecard: KKR vs RPS, Match 41
Gambhir also mentioned about Robin Uthappa who missed the game due to niggle. He said, “Obviously, it is a long tournament and these things will happen (on Uthappa’s injury). But it was an opportunity for some of the other guys to try and show what they have got. That’s how we look at these things. We thought Robin had a niggle and we did not want to take a chance with three more games and playoffs to go.”
The KKR skipper blamed his side’s batting for the loss and claimed that they were always playing the catch up game after putting on just 155 on board. “But I still think it was not a 150 wicket, we should have got 180. 150-155 always makes it a 50-50 game. One big innings like Tripathi and that takes the game away from you. Trying to be positive and trying to be sensible as well should have helped us get a good score here. We played a lot of dot balls, especially after 6 overs. And we need to rectify that. If you play dot balls and lose wickets, you don’t take the game forward. We still have to qualify till the time you qualify, we need to be positive. It’s not do or die as of now but we need to pull up our socks”, concluded Gambhir.
