Gujarat Lions (GL) bounced back incredibly well to tie the game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 35 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at Rajkot but were undone by Jasprit Bumrah‘s brilliant super over. Suresh Raina praised Bumrah for his excellent over and conceded that his team had no answers to his Yorkers at such a crucial stage. Despite this loss, GL are still just about in the hunt for making it to the playoffs, but cannot afford to lose any more matches from here. They will also be heavily dependent on how the other teams fare. GL also lost their fast bowler Andrew Tye after he hurt himself on the field. Speaking on the match, Raina said, “Heart is fine. One of the most important games I’ve been part of. A very exciting game for the crowd and every player. I think Bumrah bowled really well. Needing 12 off one over when he bowls yorkers and reverse-swings, we can’t do much. Wicket was a bit slow. We tried to go really hard early and lost a couple of wickets upfront. The bowlers bowled really well. We came back really strongly. Credit goes to Mumbai Indians. They played really well.”
Raina also felt that GL were about 30-40 runs short, but his bowlers came back strongly. “Honestly, we were 30-40 runs short. Our bowlers came back strongly. We did really well although we ended up on the losing end. It was a great game. Thanks to all the Gujaratis for their support and also to the Saurashtra Cricket Association,” Raina said.
When asked about the extent of Tye’s injury, Raina said that he is yet to get any information about it, “I haven’t seen what has happened. I have to see what happened when I go to the dressing room,” the GL skipper said.
