Suresh Raina led Gujarat Lions (GL) to a convincing win against Royal challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday. With that win GL stayed alive in the tournament, which means that they are still in contention to qualify for the playoffs. Raina also earned the Orange Cap after he remained unbeaten on 34 off 30. This was a special match for Raina as this was his daughter’ Gracia’s first match in the stadium. Raina took to Instagram and revealed the same. She clearly turned out to be her father’s lucky charm as GL managed to somewhat resurrect their campaign. Gracia was born on May 15, 2016 to Raina and his wife Priyanka at a private hospital in Amsterdam. After the birth of his daughter, an excited Raina tweeted, “Welcome my beautiful daughter. #GraciaRaina. Long wait but totally worth it. #ProudFather. She is getting dressed up for her photoshoot.” Raina also missed his first ever match in the Indian premier League (IPL), when he flew out to the Netherlands to be with his wife ahead of the birth of his daughter. Raina is the leading run-scorer in the IPL, having scored 4,407 runs in 155 matches at 34.70. he played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for eight editions before switching to GL for IPL 2016 after CSK was banned.
GL currently are on the sixth spot on IPL 2017 table. They will have to win their remaining fixtures if they are to make it to the final four. Raina has won the IPL title twice – both times with CSK, under MS Dhoni’s leadership with whom he formed a formidable partnership.
